Pensacola Florida is one of the nicer beach areas in the heart of the red neck riviera. Located about 4 hours from New Orleans, we have made many trips to this location over the past 20 years. The fishing is OK, but it’s more of enjoying the sun and surf sort of place. It’s also one of the bigger towns in the upper Gulf Coast region. Though the bar and party scene is not quite a happening as the Florida Bama line, the casinos of Biloxi, or Gulf Shores, there is plenty of fun to be had at the local watering holes.
We have been spoiled silly with some of the fishing spots outside of New Orleans and in the Laguna Marda in Texas, two of the best fishing spots in the world. While Florida has a few places that are also world famous fishing destinations, Penecola is not one of them. That being said, there are plenty of opportunities for some great fishing in the area.

Being one of the bigger towns in the region, they also have an airport with plenty of fights. One of the more appealing aspects of this beach town. It’s also not too far of a drive for several of our Krew that call New Orleans home.
The entire area is covered in condos and AirB&B rentals. Most of the time this is our choice of accommodations. Pricing on the beach is obviously considerable more expensive. The town is a little nicer that other small town that border a barrier island beach. It’s a short drive to the beach from town, but parking can be a hassle.

It was first settled by the Spanish in 1559, making it older than St. Augustine (1565), but the settlement was wiped out by a hurricane, so St. Augustine gets the official title of the oldest continuously inhabited European settlement.
